Ahmedabad Metro

Ahmedabad Metro Project (Package UG-1) for design and construction of two underground Metro stations at Kankaria East and Kalupur as well as underground tunnelling between the two stations and beyond was awarded to Afcons by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. The project also involves construction of a ramp connecting the elevated and underground sections at Apparel Park, the total length of the project being 2.44km. Tunnelling for the project has been done using TBMs and NATM.

Last year, simultaneous breakthrough of twin tunnels was achieved within a gap of 40 seconds - a rare feat in the industry.

The project in numbers:
• TBM tunnelling of twin tunnels completed: 1515m
• NATM twin tunnelling completed: 199m
• Cut and Cover tunnel including Ramp at Apparel completed: 291m
• 5 Cross Passages between both tunnel tube completed
• Structural works of 220m Kalupur underground Metro station completed, entry/exit and finishing works ongoing
• Kankaria underground Metro station of 214.2m in progress
