Pandoh-Takoli Project
Afcons is working on the Pandoh-Takoli project in full swing, which once ready will provide all-weather connectivity to one of India’s most-favoured tourist destinations, Manali, through the Pandoh-Takoli bypass.
With 10 tunnels, 1 elevated viaduct, 3 major bridges, 10 minor bridges and two-laning of more than 13 km, the project will make the spectacular road travel safe and will reduce the time by 1.5 hours from Mandi to Manali. This project is extremely complex and challenging. There are no existing tunnels in Himachal with an excavation area of 121sqm. These are the largest cross-sectional tunnels in the region.
Key Highlights:
• A 2.8 km long tunnel which is the longest twin tube tunnel on the Chandigarh-Manali highway with a clear distance of 34m between each other.
• Tunnelling achieved in poor geology with a powder factor of 0.8 kg/cum which is lower than 1.4 kg/cum, the standard for other tunnelling projects in the Himalayan region.
• The team achieved 172m heading excavation from single face in a month (January 2019) for a tunnel with 13.2 diameter, the highest in the Himalayan region.
• The 823m elevated viaduct is the longest such structure on the highway.
