The Tema-Mpakadan Railway project team in Ghana set up the first-ever PSC Sleeper Production Plant in Afcons for fast and efficient sleeper production. Here are some interesting facts about the plant.
First-ever PSC Sleeper Production Plant in Afcons
The plant uses Long Line Method for sleeper casting
Comprises casting machine, sleeper moulds with mould supporting rail and frames, hydraulic mould lifting with demoulding grab, strand laying machine, live and dead-end jacks for stressing and hydraulic de-tensioning cylinders, skip bucket, EOT crane, boiler, etc.
Two casting beds in the plant
Each bed has 8 gangways with 45 sleeper moulds
Capacity of producing 720 sleepers per day
Producing more than 15,000 sleepers a month
75,000 sleepers have been produced in five months
Targeted is to produce 1,94,000 by March 2020
